CHINCOTEAGUE Annette Wasilik BMI 2020
I’m going where the sky paints pictures everyday
I’m going where the marsh grass is gleaming in the sun
I’m going where the wind tends my memory
There’s no place else on earth I would rather be
I’m going where my first love lasts my whole life long
I’m going where there’s a million stars to wish upon
I’m going where the sun rises from the sea
Then arcs across the sky and is swallowed by
The Bay of Chincoteague
Oh Chincoteague.
Seabirds fly and dolphin dance for free
Oh Chincoteague.
Where my true love waits for me
I’m going where the dead and the living rest in peace
Where the saltwater cowboys round up the wild ponies of Assateague
I’m going where the firemen’s fair is just beyond the trees
The carrousel lights up the midway tonight
Summers by the sea
Oh Chincoteague.
Seabirds fly and dolphin dance for free
Oh Chincoteague.
Where my true love waits for me

HIGHWAY
Annette Wasilik BMI
From Love & Fire 2020
Miles and miles of corn, thunder painted sky
She rolls into the morning on this ribbon she will ride
She’s come in from the coast, another love gone bad
This one hurt the most, more than any that she’s had
Now she feels the gravity of the highway, the highway
The sky feels like home, her sister is the wind
Her mother, father, brother, stars and planets all her kin
She took to walking far when her thoughts got rough
She walked four hundred miles but it wasn’t far enough
Still she hears it calling, the highway, highway
For now the road will do until she learns to fly
Until she meets her family and Maker in the sky
While she’s here on earth you want to hold her fast
You know you’re bound to lose her and she’ll slip beyond your grasp
There’s no use in fighting the highway, highway…

Almost
Annette Wasilik BMI
From Love & Fire 2020
I'm getting used to sleeping alone,
Almost, almost, almost
Sometimes this house feels like a home
Almost, almost, almost
Our loneliness rolled in like fog
Settled in the cracks and settled in the walls
Now I'm wondering maybe I couldn't see
As I was reaching out for you, you were reaching out for me
Looks like we'll weather the storm
Almost, almost, almost
The frozen ground beneath our feet is starting to warm
Almost, almost, almost
My restless heart like a tumbleweed blows
Got a homesick feeling everywhere I go
I know its for the best but this much is true
The strongest roots I have take me right back to you
I've tried so hard to put our vows behind me
But everywhere I go, everyone I know reminds me
I'll love as deeply again
Almost, almost, almost
Broken hearts and promises are starting to mend
Almost, almost, almost
Almost, almost, almost

LUCILLE MARIE
Annette Wasilik BMI
From Love & Fire 2020
Azalea City Records
Lucille Marie is growing old.
Her husband passed away a year ago.
Second son never moved out.
Firstborn son, she don’t talk about.
Got a daughter ran away to Ohio.
She’s bent over like a willow tree.
Shuffles past, but she doesn’t see.
Holds a photo of a little child.
It’s torn and tattered but he’s running wild and free.
All her prayers couldn’t save her firstborn son
From the damage other people’d done.
“Come here boy. A little closer.
Don’t you dare be saying, ‘No, sir’.
It’s our little secret game. Don’t tell anyone.”
She’s bent over like a willow tree.
Shuffles past, but she doesn’t see.
Holds a photo of a little child.
It’s torn and tattered but he’s running wild and free.
Oh, oh, oh…
Hope hung the stars when the kids were small.
But the sky fell in, now she can’t see stars at all.
Her love is like the leaves on a weeping willow tree,
First to bud in spring and the last to fall.
Honeysuckle rain fell on the day
The police came, took her firstborn son away.
He’s gone, doing time
For passing on that same damn crime.
But there’s more ghosts to blame that’ll never pay.

Deception in the Glass
Annette Wasilik, BMI
Love & Fire, 2020, Azalea City Records
In the hotel bathroom mirror, I saw a stranger there
She kind of looked like me, had the same streak in her hair
But it didn't show what I know to be true
My heart won and lost and the cost of loving you, loving you
But I would pay it all again just to love so deep and fast
So don't you believe all that you see
There's deception in the glass
I took the elevator down to the lobby bar
It was late, the singer she was packing up her guitar
And I sat down, "A round of whiskey please."
First it warmed then it burned, like your love turned on me, turned on me.
But I could drink that bottle dry
But the forgetting never lasts
'Cause when my mind clears, your memory's still here
There's deception in the glass

Solid Ground
Annette Wasilik BMI
Love & Fire 2020
You found me in the wreckage of my broken home
I was battered on the inside, tattered on the outside and on my own
You said, "Hey now, let's get out of here." We headed up the hill
As we climbed I looked into your eyes and said, "Love nevers dies but it sure can kill."
Now I can see for miles and miles from here
I've never seen such light, stars so bright and clear
Now I can see for miles and miles around
You took me by the hand
Helped me stand on solid ground
Breakdown, tower's gonna fall
Crumbling foundations can't hold up these walls
Breakdown, tower's gonna fall
High hopes sink to the bottom of every wishing well
From that dark place I looked up
It was grace, wasn't luck. I can tell
Now I can see for miles and miles from here
I've never seen such light, stars so bright and clear
Now I can see for miles and miles around
You took me by the hand
Helped me stand on solid ground

Love & Fire
Annette Wasilik BMI
Live & Fire released 2020
Did she ever know she was their shining star?
Did she ever know their world spun around her?
Late afternoon behind the bedroom door they’d hear her crying and never knew what for
Come calm the children Daddy, Mama’s breaking down
Love and fire, fire and love
Sometimes a dragon, sometimes a dove
Oh, Jesus, the storm’s rolling through
Every child needs their mother
Their mother needs you
She always said God loves the broken ones.
She always said, he calls them his own
But on those dark days the voices would swell
She’d feel the pull of heaven. It scared them like hell
Come calm the children Daddy, Mama’s breaking down
Love and fire, fire and love
Sometimes a dragon, sometimes a dove
Oh Mary, Queen of the May
Come comfort their mother. Don’t let the dark take her away.
Lullabies and goodnight prayers. Kisses brushing back their hair.
Turn out the light
Debussy’s arpeggio ringing out into the night
She taught ‘em to dance. She taught ‘em to sing
Said it don’t mean nothing if it ain’t got that swing. Mmmm.
Love and fire, fire and love
I wish that old dragon could have saved that little dove
Did somebody somewhere try to break you in two?
Every child needs protection Mama. Who protected you?

Don’t Look Down
Annette Wasilik BMI
Love & Fire released 2020
I know your heart is hanging heavy
All you’ve tried to hold has blown away
with hollow hands your mind’s on fire
the road you walked is now a high wire
This is what I hear your angels say
Don’t look down. It’s only an illusion
Don’t look down. You have wings to fly
Don’t look down. It’s just your sad confusion
Love is all around. Don’t look down
We walk this world broken by sorrow
It’s been that way through all our history
The same big love that brought us here
sends us clues and whispers in our ears
This is what I hear it telling me
For now we see through a glass darkly
Farther on we’ll see face to face
On that day we’ll understand
our hearts were broken by loving hands
Every wound bound up, all tears erased
…Don’t look down. We’re holding hands with angels
Don’t look down, we’ve got wings to fly
Don’t look down. We’re walking home together
Love is all around. Don’t look down
